The busy day began shortly before 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, when troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to a stretch of Crain Highway near Brandywine Road, where there was a reported two-vehicle crash.
Police say that Oxon Hill resident Aaron Lewis Johnson, 38, was driving a Lexus ES east on Brandywine Road when he entered the intersection at Crain Highway and was struck by a Honda being driven by a man with two children inside.
Johnson was taken by paramedics to MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda was also hospitalized, while the children, two girls ages 5 and 3, were taken to the Children’s National Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Later that day, at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday in Prince George’s County, Jaquan Christopher Newsome, 30, of Oxon Hill, was a passenger in a Chevrolet Equinox traveling south on Branch Avenue when it rear-ended a Chevrolet Tahoe in the area and lost control.
According to police, Newsome’s vehicle rolled over in the crash, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. A woman in the Tahoe was also rushed to the Adventist Healthcare Fort Washington Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
